Monday’s Prayer: Make me sure and confident.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. Hebrews 11:1-2
Lord God, there is so much that is a maybe in this world. There is very little that I can say with any amount of great certainty. There are precious few promises that I can make and be sure that I can follow through completely. There are precious few things that I can count on with 100% confident that it will be. There is so much that is a maybe in this world, except for the things that you promise and the things that you do. I am certain that this morning the sun will rise and that later tonight the sun will set because you, Lord, rule the world and everything in it. I am certain that my sins are forgiven because you, Lord Jesus, died that I might be forgiven. I am confident that you rule the world because your Word says that you do. I am sure that one day I will live with you. I believe these things, dear Savior, but I often doubt you. Guilt lays itself on my heart and weighs me down. Sins of the past flit through my mind and trouble me. My heart shakes as the circumstances of my life are troubling and don’t seem so good. When I can’t see or feel that you are true then doubts begin to creep. Forgive me, dear Lord, and send your Holy Spirit to me so that he might make me sure and confident of all your promises. Forgive me, dear Lord, and send your Spirit to me that I might be full of him and full of confidence in your promises. Give me such a faith, dear Spirit, that does not shrink back but, instead, is fully confident of what you have said. Amen.
