Thursday’s Prayer: A Boat? Here?
By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.– Hebrews 11:7.
Lord God, faith almost always goes against the grain. Sometimes it even goes against everything that I can see. That’s what Noah experienced. You told him to build a big boat, but it probably wasn’t even near a body of water. And he was busy building this boat for a long time. It didn’t make sense, at least not to human thinking. It wasn’t just that. By his actions and by his words he spoke out to the people around them and proclaimed your coming judgment. He lived against common sense and preached against human sin. Lord God, both my way of life and my message are opposed to much of what go on in this world. Give me faith to live and trust even when it doesn’t seem to make sense to me. Give me strength to stand up and be different in this world. Give me gentle, true and wise words for the world around me. When condemnation for sin is called for, make me firm and loving in my preaching of it. When forgive for sin is called for, make me quick and gracious in the telling of it. O Lord, you have put me here to know you and to make you known. Let my words and my life by a witness to who you are, what you’ve done and what you’re going to do. Amen.
