Wednesday’s Prayer: Welcome to the club.
Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. - Hebrews 5:1-2.
Lord God, there is strange comfort for me in this verse. The people who save me are cut from the same cloth as I am. My leaders, my pastors, and all who serve me are just like me in. They struggle with sin. They struggle with temptation. They don’t keep their tongues in check. They don’t control their thoughts and even think things that they shouldn’t. They are cut from the same cloth. We may have different callings in life, but we have the same nature that Adam shared with us. O Lord, God thank you for this! Thank you for a community who is able to deal with me gently and patiently when I go astray and struggle. Thank for a community who is able to show me the One who is selected from among us and yet is also from outside of us. Our Savior Jesus Christ came down from heaven and joined our race to save our race. The people who do faith and life with me on earth can’t save me, but they can show me you. And you save me. O Lord, thank you for coming down to save me. And Lord, thank you for this community of faith who knows my frailty because we all belong to same club. Amen.
