Friday’s Prayer: The Source.
In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,“You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” Hebrews 5:5
O Lord Jesus, what grace is in this that you, the Lord of glory, accepted the appointment and assignment from your Father to be the Savior of the world. He gave you the assignment of saving the world. The mission had eternal and world-wide implications, but the cost of achieving this mission was hardly glorious. It was full of shame and disgrace. It was full of pain and suffering. O Lord Jesus, you took on this assignment from your Father for me, for the world. O Lord Jesus, help me to accept the assignments you give me and lay in front of me with the same joy. For the joy set before you, you endure the cross and laughed at its shame. For me, you did this, Lord Jesus. Help me to pour myself out for people, for my wife, for my family, because of the joy set before you. You invite me and have called me to be part of the way you bring salvation to the world. This all comes from you who have given to me and to all Christians the ministry of reconciliation. Help me to do this with humility and joy because I know who I am in this process. I am in your service. All of this comes from you. Amen.
