Saturday’s Prayer: Work hard, play hard.
Ecclesiastes 9:9, 10 - Enjoy life with the wife you love all the days of your fleeting life, which has been given you under the sun, all your fleeing days. For that is your portion in life and in your struggle under the sun. Whatever your hands find to do, do with all your strength, because there is no work, planning, knowledge, or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.
Lord God, the Teacher in Ecclesiastes helps me see how meaningless and pointless everything is apart from you. He helps me see how much I am at your mercy; I am completely and wholly at your mercy. I don’t know what is going to happen to tomorrow; I can’t even begin to predict what is going to happen when the sun rises tomorrow. I don’t even know if the sun will rise tomorrow (that would be great! because I know that you’d be here for me). I can’t control what is going to happen today or tomorrow. It is all so much out of my control, beyond my knowing and wisdom. So, Lord, I ask, help me to do the work that you give me to do with all my night. Help me to pour myself at in all my work. And give this to me too, that I would enjoy my spouse and my family. They are a gift to me from you. Help me to enjoy my family and time with them. Give this to me today, dear Lord. Amen.
