He is worthy!

Matthew-2-9.jpg

Prayer:

Lord God, I have seen what you have done for us in the manger.  I have seen what you have done on the cross. I have seen what you have done in your empty tomb.  Lead me to adore you for what you have done for me. Amen.

Devotion:

Matthew 2:9-11

9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The wise men were certainly devoted.  You have to understand what it took for them to do what they did.  Their trip must have taken not just days and weeks, but even months.  It must have cost them countless hours and countless dollars to travel all that way. Their trip was an incredible undertaking.  Imagine getting on some camels or horses and traveling all the way from Wisconsin to California.

Their gifts were certainly lavish and rich gifts.  They gave gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These were most valuable and precious things that the Magi could have given.  Few things were more precious or more valuable in those days.  These wise men thought this king whom they came to worship was a big deal.  Their gifts were incredibly valuable and precious.

They must have thought that King Jesus was a big deal.  They must have thought that King Jesus was important. They must have thought that King Jesus was worthy of this and of so much more.  When you adore someone like they did, you do incredible things like this.

Jesus is worth all the gifts you might bring.

Jesus is worthy of all the honor that you can give him.

He is, after all, the King of kings and the Lord of lords.  He has created the world and everything in it. He has formed and fashioned all things. He brought all things in existence by the very words that came from his mouth.  Even still today, he keeps all things in their places by his powerful word. Yes, he is worthy of all the honor that we might give him.

He is the sacrificial Lamb to end all sacrifices, the redemption price for our sins and for the sins of the whole world.  He did give up his throne in heaven to take his place as a human being among us, to live for us, to die for us, and even to rise for us.  He has done all these things that we might become children of God.  Yes, he is worth all the gifts you might bring and is worthy of all the honor you might give him.
