December 8, 2018 – You are now part of the story
Gracious God, we do not deserve to be called your children. But you have had mercy on us for the sake of Jesus, and you have called us out of sin and to have a purpose. Strengthen us in these truths today. Amen.
1 Timothy 1:12-14
12I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
The story of God’s people in the Bible is filled with sinners. The people God used throughout the Bible were filled with weakness and sin.
Abraham didn’t always trust God to keep his promises.
David committed adultery and killed a man to keep it quiet.
Rahab was a prostitute.
Matthew was a tax-collector.
Moses was a chicken; he didn’t want to do what God asked him to do.
Jonah ran away from God.
Paul was a persecutor who tried to arrest Christians and throw them in jail.
But do you see what God did for all of them and through all them?
For all of them, God sent his Son to die and rise so that they would be forgiven for the sins and failures.
Through all of them, God worked out salvation for you and me and the whole world.
Through Abraham, God brought salvation for the whole world.
Through David, God gave a King who would rule forever.
Through Rahab, God kept his people and his promise safe when they tried to take over Jericho.
Through Matthew, God has given us the story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.
Through Moses, God gave us the 10 Commandments.
Through Jonah, God brought salvation to Nineveh.
Through Paul, God gave wisdom and instruction to God’s people since the first century.
Through Paul, God even gives us an example of God’s patience and grace.
If God did use them, know this: God also desires to use you. If God did use them, God will also you use you. Jesus now has brought you into his family tree so that you can be a part of the way that the story continues.
The shepherds were. Once they knew that the story was for them they took that message to the people all around so that they would know too. They became part of the way the story continues into the world. You are part of God’s story now. You are part of the way that the good news about our Savior Jesus goes out into the world. Who will you tell today?

Do this together as a family.
1. Identifyfour people in your life who you can tell about Jesus.
2. Intercede(pray) for them that God would give you an opportunity to tell them about Jesus and to invite them to hear at Mount Lebanon.
3. Investin them. Find a way to build a deeper relationship with them, to care about them the way that Jesus cares about you. Can you give them a plate of cookies? Can you get them a Starbucks gift card? How about inviting them over for dinner? What else might you do?
4. Invite. Get some invitations to Christmas so that you can simply invite them to worship with you.
Gracious Lord, as we look around we see many people who are lost, hurting, and broken. In our family, in our schools, in our workplaces, in our neighborhood, there are so many that need the peace we have, the comfort of forgiveness we know, the joy of heaven we hold. Make us bold and confident with your saving truth to share the message of a Savior for all. Amen.
