Friday’s Prayer: Wisdom to see our suffering clearly.
James 1:12-15 - Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Lord God, you call the person who perseveres blessed. You remind me that temptation doesn’t come from you, but rather it comes from inside of me. Oh, Lord God, give me wisdom to see trials and temptations clearly. Give me wisdom to see that trials are discipline fro you, because you love me, because you want me to share in your holiness. Give me wisdom and strength to endure those trials. You have made me the sure promise that the crown of life is mine. I will wear it one day. Grant me strength and wisdom to hold on to your promises no matter how severe the trial. And Lord, give me wisdom to see that temptations arise from within me and they want to destroy me. When they grow up, they will give birth to death in me. Lord God, give me strength to fight the temptations that come from outside and from inside of me. Help me fight them, dear Father in heaven. Amen.
