Thursday’s Prayer: Wisdom to see our value clearly.
James 1:9-10 - Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower.
Lord God, help me to see what really matters clearly. Help me to find my riches, my high status, and my confidence in you and your gifts to me. It is so easy, dear Father, to be discouraged and down on myself when I’m living in lowly circumstances and when my life is in the dregs. It’s easy to be down when I don’t have a status in this world. Help me to see how rich you make me in Christ. Help me to know how much you treasure me. Remind me that I have a high and exalted status in your sight – I’m your child! Lord God, a person can’t be more exalted than that; and you’ve done this for me. Lord Jesus, it’s also easy for me to take pride in a position, in power that I hold, or even in the riches that I get to enjoy. It’s easy to take pride in those things instead of rejoicing in what you’ve given me and who you’ve called me to be. Help me remember that all of this passes away like a flower. Status comes and go. Riches disappear as quickly as they come. The wind blows on it and it’s gone, but the inheritance, Lord God, that you’ve given me never disappears and never goes away. It endures forever. Lord God, give me wisdom to see that my value and riches are fully and only found in Christ. Amen.
