Tuesday’s Prayer: How would you feel if…?
James 2:8-10 - If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
Lord God, these questions that James forces me to ask are probing and thought provoking. He forces me to ask, “How would I feel if people talked to me that way?” He forces me to ask, “How would I feel if people talked about me that way and behind my back?” He forces me to wonder, “How would I feel if people did this or that to me?” Oh, Father, normally I ask that question when people are doing wrong to me and by me. But I need to ask these questions when I’m the one talking and one doing. I need to ask these questions when I’m talking about someone. I need to ask these questions when I’m talking to someone. I need to ask these questions all day long as I love my neighbor in my day to day life. Lord God, help me to keep on asking the question: “How would I want to be loved in this situation” as I live my life today. Amen.
