Friday’s Prayer: Wisdom’s Work

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. ‭‭James‬ ‭3:17-18‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Lord, you call to me a very different life.  Your wisdom calls me to a very different focus in my life.  The wisdom of this world is all about making a mad grab for everything I can get.  The wisdom of this world is all about getting “for me”.  And I can see this in me. Dear Father, when I sit back and evaluate my anger, my frustration, and my actions, every sinful action and attitude comes from a heart that is self-seeking and selfish. Forgive me, dear Father in heaven.  And lead me to live a life that works with wisdom from above.  This wisdom is so different.  It leads me to seek what is good for other people, even to my own detriment. It leads me to give up something so that others may get something.  It leads me to lose so that others may win.  Lord God, help me to work for peace and to consider what is best for other people.  Teach me to show mercy and kindness to all people regardless of who they are or what they look like.  Help me to sow goodness, kindness and peace in the world around me.  Help me to do all this not because of what I will get out of it, but simply because this is what your Spirit works in me, simply because of who I am in this world.  Amen.

Wisdom from above doesn’t think about “me” but always thinks about “them.”  It will do what is good for them even if it hurts me.
