Thursday’s Prayer: Whatever it takes.
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.Hebrews2:14-17
Lord Jesus, you are such a good big brother. There is none like you. When you saw that death was coiling to strike like a king cobra ready to strike out, you took on my humanity. When you saw that judgment was ready to sting like a scorpion, you became like me in every way except for my sin. You were willing to do whatever it took to save me and rescue me from the sting of death, to rob sin of it’s victory. You shared my humanity so that you could die and take the sting away from death. Like a dog without a bark, like a scorpion without a sting, like a snake without a bite, the devil’s power is totally abolished by your death. You became fully human in every way so that you might fully make payment for each and every one of my sins. O Lord Jesus, you are such a good big brother. You weren’t going to let anything – not anything at all – keep me away from my Father in heaven. Lord Jesus, what is there for me to say except thank you! Thousand, thousand thanks you, O Jesus, Lamb of God, my Savior and my brother. Amen.
