Friday’s Prayer: Goodbye Fear.
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. Hebrews2:14-15
Lord Jesus, we spend so much of our lives living in fear and running from it. It feels like much of my life is spent running away. I’m running to escape the judgment of people. I’m running to find success. I’m running and chasing and seeking. I’m chasing ways to make my life better, both the quality and quantity of it. I’m living scared. Afraid of what the doctor will find. Afraid of what people might say. Afraid of how my life will measure when it is weighed in the balance. But Lord Jesus, you’re helping me say “goodbye” to fear. In fact, you give me every reason to tell fear to get lost. You, Lord Jesus, have shared my humanity and have utterly crushed death under your feet. You have utterly destroyed death and the devil, my two greatest enemies. And more than that, you have set me free from slavery to fear and death. Death cannot have me because you have bought me for yourself and brought me into your family. Hell cannot claim me because my sins have been forgiven and washed away. Satan can bring no accusations because you, Lord Jesus, stand at my side to defend me against his accusations. You are right; he is always wrong. Lord Jesus, there is truly nothing for me to fear. By this truth, help me to live my life with reckless abandon, chasing and seeking your kingdom, all out running toward you, for your kingdom, and longing for my eternal life with you. Good bye fear! Hello Jesus! I’m running for you! Amen.
