Tuesday’s Prayer: Today!
Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.Hebrews4:6-8
Lord God, when am I ever going to be done with the tasks in front of me? I feel like there is a never ending list of tasks and projects that need to be accomplished. When am I ever going to able to finish all that my callings require? My spouse needs from me. My children needs from me. My job needs from me. My neighbor needs from me. When will I ever be done? I feel like there is the never ending pressure of providing for my life, of planning and directing my life. I feel like there is never a time when I get to say, “It is very good.” The truth is, Father, that I can’t ever get there. But God you did. At creation, you stood back and surveyed all that you made and it was very good. At the cross, your Son shouted with all the breath left in his lungs, “It is finished.” In your Word, you promises that every word from your mouth will come to path; they are as good as done. Today, dear Lord, as I hear you speak these words to me, let my heart stop freaking out. Today, dear Lord, take the burden that all my callings require of me. Today, dear Lord, take the fear and the worry from my heart. Today, dear Lord, let me hear your voice and rest in your finished work and your perfect rule. Let me work with all the might and energy you provide. Let me seize the time and make the most of every opportunity. Give me wisdom to work within my callings for you, for your glory, as you will it, that your kingdom may come. But Lord, now as the day begins, later as the day continues, and tonight as the day wanes, give rest to my heart because your will is always accomplished. Today, Lord, help me to enter into your rest because your work is done. Amen.
