Wednesday’s Prayer: Urgent and Important.
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. Hebrews4:9-11
Dear Father in heaven, so many things will come flying at me today. Phone calls. Text messages. Emails. Requests. Assignments. Questions. Tasks. They will come at me from work, from home, and even from my community. And all of them will cry out, “Answer me. Do me. I am important.” My text messages will cry out, “Answer me.” The new task will cry out, “Get me done first.” I’m constantly asking myself the question: Is this urgent? Do I need to get this done now or can it wait? Is this important? Is this something I need to prioritize despite the cries from other things to get them done first? Lord God, as I look at all the things in front of me today, there is nothing more urgent and important than my own faith and resting in your finished work. My faith is something that so easily gets sidelined. My walk of faith and my resting in God’s Word is of first importance. My resting in your finished work is both urgent and important. Lord, your coming is imminent and I don’t want to be found outside of your grace and mercy, outside of the faith. Keep me from this. And Lord, my eternal resting with you is important because I don’t want to spend eternity apart from you. Keep me safe in your grasp, dear Savior. Help me make this a matter of first importance today. Amen.
