Thursday’s Prayer: Cutting to the quick.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.Hebrews4:12-13 NIV
Lord God, your Word is living and active. It does not portray bare words on a page. It does not tell a meaningless story. It does not give stale directions. Lord, your Word, is powerful to save me, to convert me, and to transform me into a child of God. In the same way, your Word is sharp like a surgeon’s scalpel cutting deeply into the very marrow of my bones, laying my heart and conscience bare before you, O Lord. I can’t escape it. As I read and meditate on your Word it does not let me off the hook; it judges more than my actions, it gets right down to the thoughts and attitudes of my heart. Lord, your Word is sharp. And, at the very same time, dear Savior, your Word is healing. It forgives my sin and binds my wounded heart. It makes me whole and healthy, pure and clean before you. O Lord, your Word is living and active to cut and to heal, to break and to restore. Lord, teach me to use it so that your Word can do its creative and saving work on me. Amen.
