In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. Hebrews 1:1-2
O God, your grace and mercy to us is astounding. You have made yourself known to us. You have made your nature known to us. You have told us what you are like. You have told us what you want for us and from us in our lives on this earth. Throughout the ages you have spoken at many times and in many ways. You have spoken directly to your people. You have spoken through your prophets and apostles. You have spoken in dreams and visions. You have inspired the Holy Scriptures so that we, your people, might be equipped for every good work. You have given us the best and clearest revelation of your nature through your Son Jesus. When we see him through Scripture and by faith, we see you! God, you have made yourself known to us. O God, I pray, never take your Word away from us. For if you take your Word away from us and you send us a famine of your Word, then how will we know you? How will we be saved by you? How, O God, will we know your will for us if you take your Word away from us!?! Instead, Lord God, send your Spirit to me so that I treasure, relish, and enjoy every Word from your mouth like a sweet delicacy. You have spoken to us on the pages of Scriptures; it doesn’t get any better than that. Make your Word sweet to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth. Amen.
