Read John 1:29-34
Points to Ponder:
Make a list of all the ways that Jesus is great according to John.
Which one is the greatest?
John calls Jesus “the Lamb of God who carries away the sin of the world.” What did Jesus do with your sin?
John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”
Lord Jesus, John helps me see you at your greatest. Yes, you ranked before him because you always existed. From all eternity you are God! You created this world and everything in it. You hold it all together by your powerful word. You give light and life to all creation, yes, to all mankind. But shows me that your greatness is found in what you came to do for me. You are the one who takes away my sin and the sin of the whole world. You take blame for all the things that I ever did wrong. All that I’ve ever done wrong, you stood up before our God and said, “I did it!” You bore the blame. You took the punishment that I deserved. This is where I see your greatness and your grace. You did this even though you didn’t have to. You did this even though I didn’t deserve anything good from you. O Lord Jesus, I stand in awe and wonder at your greatness and grace! Amen.
