Day 18 - John 4:16-26
Points to Ponder:
1.Look back to the first section of John 4, as you read this section. What is Jesus revealing to this woman about herself?
2.What is Jesus revealing to this woman about himself?
3.Where is Jesus trying to lead this woman?
4.How does this lead to worship “in spirit and truth?”
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. – John 4:23-24
Lord God, you are seeking true worship in and from me. You want me to worship you, but not in a specific place, with specific words, gestures or actions, not in a specific way. You want me to worship you in my heart. You want me to come to you in genuine and true worship. This, dear Lord, has to be your work in me. I cannot worship this way without your Spirit. I can show up at a building. I can bend my knees, close my eyes, and bow my head. I can say prayers. I can do the actions, but the bending of my heart before you is something you must do. So, dear Lord, pour out your Spirit on me and humble my heart before you as you reveal my sin and sinfulness. Show me, O Spirit, who I am and what I’m like. Humble my heart before the Lord. And also, dear Jesus, show me yourself! You are “I am!” Show me your greatness, your grace and your glory. In this way, Holy Spirit, lead me to worship the Father in spirit and in truth, in a genuine and true way. Amen.
