Day 24 - John 5:10-16
Points to Ponder:
1.Why were the Jews upset at the man who had just been healed?
2.Why did Jesus come to find the man and then warn him?
3.Was Jesus rebuking him for carrying the mat or something else? Why do you think that?
4.What is the “something worse” that might happen to him or to us?
5.What is the warning for us here?
Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” – John 5:14.
Lord Jesus, I don’t always like it when you do this to me, but it is always good when you come and rebuke me for my sin. I don’t like it when people come to show me my sin. I almost always push back, make excuses, blame other people, or even deny that I’ve been sinning. I don’t like it when people come to approach me for my sin. It’s uncomfortable. It’s condemning. But it’s so necessary. Lord Jesus, I need this from you and from other people. If I don’t repent of my sin and my sinfulness, something worse will happen to me. That something worse is an eternity away from you and from your goodness. Lord Jesus, keep me from that. Keep calling me to repentance by people in my life. Make me uncomfortable with my sin so that I turn to you for forgiveness and life. As much as I hate it, I need this rebuke in my life. Keep sending it so that I might live with you forever. Do whatever it takes so that I can live with you forever in heaven. Amen.
