Read John 1:19-28
Points to Ponder:
What was John the Baptist’s purpose in the plan of salvation?
When John gave a complete answer to people who asked who he was, he used the words of Isaiah 40:3. How was John’s ministry one of “making straight the way for the Lord”?
Why do you still need the ministry of John the Baptist through those who follow in his footsteps
What did you receive from God through your own baptism? What he do to the sin in your heart? What did he do with your sin? What did he do with your whole life now?
John 1:26 “I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
Lord Jesus, you came powerfully into my life by your Holy Spirit. You gave him to me and drowned my sinful nature. Yet, dear Lord Jesus, that sinful nature of mine still likes to rise up from the waters of my baptism and would pull me down and away from you. Sometimes I feel so helpless against my old nature. I think things that I don’t want to think. I feel ways that I know I shouldn’t feel. I even do things that I hate to do. Lord Jesus, I need you to continue to pour out your Holy Spirit on me to drown again and again my sinful nature in me. Kill him to death, dear Jesus. And raise me up again by your Holy Spirit to live a new life for you. Resurrect me to live before you forever. Amen.
