Day 35 - John 6:52-59
Points to Ponder:
1. What are the crowds confused about now?
2. What is Jesus trying to communicating to him?
3. What does he mean “eat this flesh” and “drink my blood”? (Note: He is not talking about the Lord’s Supper because that has not been instituted yet. Consider what Jesus told them earlier when he said: The work of God is this…)
4. What is the benefit of eating this bread (v 58)?
John 6:54 - Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
O living and loving God, how could we know the depth of Your love if Your Son had not become flesh of our flesh, and blood of our blood? How could we ever have the courage to live for one another and if necessary to die if He had not given up His body and shed His blood for us? Where else would we receive strength and sustenance for the journey here if you had not given us faith in him? In the incarnation of your Son, in his coming to this earth, you have shown us your love, have forgiven us all our sins, and have given us the sure hope of the resurrection from dead. In his coming through Word and Sacrament still today you assure us that you love us still, continue to forgive us day by day, and even continue to keep us in the faith until our resurrection day. Thank you, dear Father, for giving us your Son. Amen.
