Day 62 - John 11:1-16
Points to Ponder:
1. What was the relationship between Jesus and the siblings (Lazarus, Mary and Martha)?
2. Why didn’t Jesus go to help right away?
3. Why did Jesus eventually go even though there was the threat of getting stoned?
4. What reason did Jesus give for his delay in going to help Lazarus and for being glad that he wasn’t there?
So the sisters sent a message to him, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” – John 11:3
Lord Jesus, you had a personal, friend relationship with Mary, Martha and Lazarus. This request that the sisters had of you was not one of the multitude who asked apart from a personal relationship. They asked you and reached out to you because you were their friend. They asked you because you cared deeply about Lazarus. Lord Jesus, when I consider that I might also say this about myself, “I am the one you love,” this changes my perspective on so many things. In my prayers, I am not calling to you as one in a great throng of numbered people; I am calling to you as a friend. In my life, I am not depending on you as if you were a crutch; I am depending on you as I rely on my friends. Lord Jesus, I am the one you love. I am the one you care about. Hear me as I cry out to you this day. Walk with me as I go through this day. Give me wisdom from your Word and by your Spirit. Walk me with from the dawn of this day until the sun sets. I am so grateful to say that I am the one you love. Amen.
