Day 63 - John 11:17-27
Points to Ponder:
1. When Martha came out to Jesus as he came into town, did she approach him in frustration or faith? How can you tell?
2. What did she know and confess about Jesus?
3. What further truth did Jesus reveal to her about himself?
Jesus said to her, “Your brother will live.” And Martha said to her, “I know that he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.” – John 11:23-25.
Lord Jesus, give me a faith like Martha’s even in the face of death. Her dear brother had just died. Jesus was seemingly slow in coming, even four days after he had been buried. Yet, Martha comes with deep sorrow, but deeper faith. She knew the power and might of Jesus. She knew his love and compassion. And so even in the face of death, she confessed her faith in Jesus, the One who will raise the dead from the graves. Give me a faith like this even through my tears. It is so easy for me, dear Savior, to lose sight of your power and your promises in the face of such darkness. It is so easy for frustration, fear, and sadness to drown out the power of your hand and the sweetness of your promises. Give me a faith that trusts your power no matter what the circumstances. Give me a faith that holds your promises not matter how things seem to be going. And so, keep my tears from becoming hopeless tears. Change my hopeless tears, to hope-filled tears. Amen.
