Day 75 - John 13:1-5
Points to Ponder:
1.Identify the two things that Jesus knows.
2.How did his knowledge of those two things inform his decisions?
Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them with the goal in mind. John 13:1
Lord Jesus, you knew it was time. You knew it was time to finish up this work that you had come to do. You had a clear sense of who you were and why you had come. You had a clear sense of what was in your power and control. Out of deep love for your disciples and for all people, you loved us with the goal of our eternity in mind. You got down on your hands and knees and washed your disciples feet. You loved them fully and completely. You have loved me with the same kind of love. You have loved me with the goal of my eternity in mind. That’s why you do what you do in my life. And that’s where I struggle, dear Jesus. I don’t always like the way you’re loving me. I don’t always agree with the things you send and allow in my life. I don’t always like the discipline that you send into my life. I don’t like it because it’s unpleasant and painful. I don’t like it because it messes with my plans. But Lord Jesus, as uncomfortable as I sometimes am with the way you practice your love in my life, I know that it is for my eternal good. You love me with the goal of my eternity in your mind. You do what you do because you want me in heaven. Help me to see this, understand it, and believe it. You love me in a way that no one else can or does. Amen.
