Day 83 - John 14:22-27
Points to Ponder:
1.List promises that Jesus makes to his disciples in this section.
2.Which one comforts you the most? Why that one?
3.Why is this section so full of promises as compared with other sections of John previously?
I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you. John 14:26.
Lord Jesus, I can hardly put myself in the shoes of the disciples on this night. I try to think about all that made them tremble and shake. I try to think about how confused and overwhelmed they felt as Jesus revealed what Judas was going to do, what he was going to do, and even what was going to happen to him. They needed these promises in that moment. They would certainly need those promises in the days, weeks, months and even years ahead. They would need the Holy Spirit to keep on teaching and to continue reminding them of all that Jesus had told them. Lord Jesus, I need the same. I’ve spent a good amount of time in your Word throughout my life, but I can’t ever learn it enough. On top of that I’m not always able to apply the right passage to my heart at the right time; I’m not good at diagnosing the condition of my heart and applying your Word to it in the right season. O Holy Spirit, come! Come with your Word and remind me of what I need to know when I need to know. Come, Holy Spirit, and cut me open with your sharp, double-edged sword. Remove sin. Lead me to repent of it. Then, Holy Spirit, come! Come and bind up my wound with the balm of your love and forgiveness. Work the right fruits of repentance in me. O Jesus, I need your Holy Spirit today like your disciples needed him in those days. Send him! You promised that you would do it. Amen.
