Day 84 - John 14:28-31
Points to Ponder:
1.Jesus wants his disciples to rejoice. What reasons here and in other places does he give for them to rejoice?
2.What does Jesus reveal about the “prince of the world”?
3.Why does Jesus do what he does? What does he want for each of us?
I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me. John 14:30
Lord Jesus, these words comfort me so much. I see so much evil in this world. I see so much of what seems to be bad and harmful happening to people I love. I experience so much wickedness and hurt and heartache in my own life. The prince of this world is certainly snarling. Like a pit bull on a chain, he runs into the yard of this world and wants to cause wickedness. He is a liar and the father of lies. He is a murderer and has been a murderer from the beginning. He is at work in every false teaching, every false teacher, every evil deed, every wicked action, every cutting word. Yes, the sin that comes from me and from other people is truly their evil. But you are stirring it up in them and enticing them and me into sins which would kill us. Lord Jesus, the prince of this world has nothing on you. You have come and you have stomped down on his head, crushing him and he cannot recover from that. He is destroyed beneath your feet. You have come and now you sit at God’s right hand ruling all things in this world for our eternity, for our eternal good and benefit. You have come and gone, yet still you remain! You have conquered death and promise that you will be with me to the very end of the age. Lord Jesus, I will not fear the prince of this world because he has no power over you. Grant me courage to stand against him and to live with confidence and strength in this world where the devil still prowls. Amen.
