Day 103 - John 18:28-35
Points to Ponder:
1. What is ironic about the actions of the Jews?
2. What are the Jews most concerned about in their actions?
3. What is Pilate most concerned about in what he does?
Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters. It was early morning. They did not enter the headquarters themselves; otherwise they would be defiled and unable to eat the Passover. John 18:28
Lord Jesus, there is no interest in justice on anyone’s part on this day. The Jews want to appear righteous and they want to stay clean according to the letter of the law; but the also want to wrongly condemn a man to death. The whole time they want to keep their hands clean. Pilate wants justice, but even more than justice he is only interested in maintaining the peace in his city. He only wants to keep the peace. Lord Jesus, keep my heart from such duplicity. Help me to seek only what is good and right. Keep my heart aligned with yours so that I only and always see what is right and just, not what is easy and beneficial for me. Your heart was always aligned with your Father’s. That’s why you let this injustice go on. That’s why you often remain silent. You let them do their worst so that you could do your best. You weren’t interested in what was good for you; you were interested in what was good for me. Thousand, thousand thanks to thee, dearest Lamb of Calvary. Amen.
