Day 108 - John 19:25-27
Points to Ponder:
1. What do you learn about Jesus from his actions in this section?
2. What does it teach about his love for you?
3. How does it teach you to love others?
When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. John 19:26-27
Lord Jesus, how selfless and how full of love you were even in your deep distress! When I’m hurting and in pain, I seem to only find energy to think about what I am going through and what sort of help I need in my pain. I am so self-focused in the moments of my trial and pain. But you were focused on those around you and how you were going to support them in their futures together. As I consider this, I can’t help but consider that this is how you love me. When you suffered all of this, you were never thinking about yourself and how much it was going to hurt or how much it did hurt. You were never thinking about the suffering; you were thinking about the end and how this all was going to accomplish salvation for me and for the whole world. You were thinking about me! You had the world in your mind as you endured all this. Dear Jesus, inspire me by your love for me to refocus my heart and my life to love like you. Inspire me by your love be others-focused even when I’m hurting. You will comfort me in my hurt; help me be and to provide the comfort that others need in their distress. Amen.
