Let Justice Roll - #6 - Visions

Finally! We get to some good news. After so many words of judgment and woe. After visions of fire and the knocking down of walls, we get a new vision. Amos has a vision of what God will do at the end when all nations are together under one tent. Amos has a vision of what God is doing now and what God will do at the end. This is a massive vision full of incredible hope. It makes all of our visions seem small. Here God drops the mic and leaves a final promise of hope. You won’t want to miss this final sermon from Amos. We’ll be looking at Amos 9:11-15.

Let Justice Roll - #5 - Setting things Right

This is a strange thing. So many words of judgment. Where is the relief? Where is the good news? We’ll turn the tables in this sermon and show how the judgment of one group, means relief and rescue for another. The downfall of the oppressors means rescue for the oppressed. This is good news for the oppressed! The LORD is just and does not overlook injustice. God’s judgment then is good news for them. The call of Moses is God’s answer to the oppression of Israel; God is determined to rescue his people from those who oppress them.

Let Justice Roll - #3 - Ash Wednesday Lamentation

On Wednesday, Lent begins. For us, this means a special focus on the suffering of Jesus and his victory for us. Above all else, during this time, Jesus invites us to come. So, come! Come, dust and ashes that you are. Come, sinner that you are. Come, Jesus invites you. The weight of the world is on his shoulders. We begin with a look at Amos 5:1-14.

Let Justice Roll - #2 - Privileged

Amos is a difficult book. There is no way around that. He confronts Israel with many sins against the Lord and against people. In this sermon, we want to ask questions: How did it get so bad? And how can we keep far from this? In doing this, we will reclaim for ourselves a biblical understanding of our privilege as God’s chosen people who are dearly loved. We will also begin to see what this privilege of grace means for us as we step into the world.

Reset - #5 - Reset for Mission

Why all this talk about physical, spiritual, emotional health? Why all this talk about living a resilient and healthy life? Because our life and the way we live it matters to the Lord. Paul tells us that our whole life, even the most mundane parts of it, are to be for the glory of God. More than that, he has called us to a mission, to fish for people, to tell as many people as possible about him until he returns. This reset matters to the Lord as we push forward in our mission of fishing for people.

Reset #4 - The Wise Way

Studies show that by the end of January and, most of the time, before the end of January, many of the plans and resolutions that people have made for the new year have fallen by the wayside. How can we reset our lives and stay on that path? First, let’s be clear that we will have setbacks along the way. We’re not going to be perfect in our resilient walk spiritually, emotionally, or physically no matter how disciplined we may be. Second, this means that each day can be a “Day 1” for us. But most importantly, we have to recognize the gift that God has given us in our Christian friendships and in our Christian congregation. We have people next to us in life who are chasing the same eternal goal as we are, who only want our best. The wise way to reset is in community with our friends and with those who share our faith.

Reset #3 - Reset my Physical Life

The physical part of our lives is not often a conversation that we have in our worship services or even in our Bible studies. But it is a vital part of who we are. We are created by God and gifted physically by him. Our life and breath and all that we are his a gift from him. In fact, our bodies are temples for his Spirit. This means that God has something to say about the way that we care for our bodies and the way that we use them. It’s time for a reset of our physical lives.

Reset - #2 - Reset my Inner Life

Studies have shown that in the last two years, more and more people struggle with feelings of depression and anxiety. Suicides have significantly risen. Our inner, emotional life is in turmoil. What can we do about it? Let’s start here with a reset of our inner life. Let’s start by accepting our life as it comes at us, but by refusing to be defined by it. We may be crushed, but we are not destroyed. We may be overwhelmed, but we will not lose. Who are we? We are not victims. We are victors in Christ.

We’re looking at 2 Corinthians 4:7-18 and 10:5.
