There are moments in life when everything seems to spin out of control—suffering strikes, answers don’t come, and we’re left wondering where God is in the chaos.
That’s exactly where Job found himself. A righteous man brought low, stripped of family, health, and dignity. His friends offered hollow theories. Job demanded answers. And for a long time, God was silent.
But in Job 40, God finally responds. And it’s not what Job expected.
God doesn’t explain why Job suffered. He doesn’t justify His ways. Instead, He takes Job on a whirlwind tour of creation, culminating in a challenge: “Look at Behemoth.”
Behemoth is a creature of mystery and might—untamable, powerful, and completely beyond human control. And yet, God speaks of it casually, as something He formed and governs with ease. No one else can manage Behemoth. But God can.
It’s a striking moment.
God’s message isn’t simply about a creature—it’s about trust. If God rules even over Behemoth, then He rules over all. Even the forces we fear. Even the chaos we don’t understand. Even our deepest pain.
That’s what Job needed—not explanations, but perspective. He needed to be reminded that the God who governs the wildest parts of creation also governs the wild places of our lives.
The same is true for us.
In seasons of confusion or suffering, we’re tempted to demand answers. But sometimes, God answers with a storm—and within it, a voice that calls us to trust. His control extends over the untamable. His care includes the broken. And His power never fails.
This Sunday, we’ll reflect on Job 40 together. We’ll sit with the questions, the storm, and the mystery of Behemoth. And we’ll remember:
Even when we’re not in control, God is.
We hope you’ll join us.
